Interesting comment posted in FB by one of my lecturers's supervisor:
My supervisor for my Masters thesis was a German guy. He said to me:
"It took us, it took Europe, a few hundred years to modernize. Along the way, women were burnt at the stake, scientists were forced to kill themselves, and scores of people died. Singapore did it within a few decades without all this death; it's amazing. But it all came at a cost. Singapore has no soul. Singaporeans have no ideals. There is no passion in your eyes"
